Justice Navin Chawla allowed the Centre's application which claimed that no grounds were made out for challenging the BJP leader's election. "Application under rule 7 order 11 (of Civil Procedure Code) allowed. The writ petition is dismissed," the court said.

The detailed judgement giving the reasons for the dismissal is awaited. The plea by Arun Kumar, who claims to be a voter of the Chandni Chowk constituency, alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader had indulged in corrupt practices by not disclosing the real cost of a residential apartment in Dwarka bought by his wife.

In the Lok Sabha election held in April and May, Vardhan won the Chandni Chowk seat, defeating the Congress' Jai Prakash Agarwal and the Aam Aadmi Party's Pankaj Gupta.
