Nalanda has a JD(U) stronghold since 1999. JD(U)'s George Fernandes represented the seat from 1999 to 2004, following which JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar came to power. Kaushalendra Kumar of the JD(U) is the sitting MP since 2009.
